Established in Edson, Alberta in 2012, Backwoods Resources provides a strong and dedicated management team with the main goal of working with our clients to maintain respect & care for the environment. With over 40 years of combined experience, we assure our customers proper and professional service when providing consultation and control of their various vegetation management needs, while also sustaining appreciation and responsibility for the environment.
From the start to now, Backwoods has grown from 2 employees to employing over 75 seasonal employees both Canadian and International). Originally working in the Oil & Gas sector in Edson, AB, we have now expanded our footprint to serve clients from across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Specializing in industrial vegetation management we have also expanded into vegetation management associated with the forestry industry and within various environmental projects.
Our team of experts work tirelessly to ensure that the quality and care we provide our customers is exceptional. Troy is the visionary behind Backwoods Resources. Troy has been at the forefront of the vegetation management industry for over 12 years, starting the company in 2012. With an innate dedication to environmental care and a commitment to innovative solutions, Troy has steered Backwoods Resources to become a leader in sustainable vegetation management. Under Troy’s leadership, Backwoods Resources has successfully navigated the challenges of maintaining ecological balance while meeting the needs of various industries including- oil and gas, forestry, mining, environmental and other industrial sectors. He has taken a proactive approach to vegetation management, integrating advanced technologies and environmentally friendly practices to ensure client satisfaction and environmental integrity. Troy holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Alberta, further solidifying his expertise in the field and helping operate a successful business. In his free time, Troy enjoys golf, hockey, coaching his kids, the ranch life and being outside which reflect his deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Troy is dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities served by Backwoods Resources.
Adam Standish
Field Manager
Adam made the move from Australia to Canada in 2017, seeking new horizons. Joining Backwoods in the summer of 2018, his expertise in Vegetation Management, combined with 5 years as a Refrigeration Mechanic, brings invaluable insight to our team. In 2023, Adam's dedication and proficiency earned him the role of Field Manager, where he continues to drive excellence in our operations, showcasing his 7 years of industry experience in both Australia and Canada. Adam endeavors to cultivate an enjoyable work environment at Backwoods, fostering the personal and professional growth of our staff as individuals and leaders.
Brittany Bush
Safety Coordinator & Office Manager
Brittany, a seasoned Safety Coordinator at Backwoods Resources, boasts a decade of experience in the vegetation management industry, specializing in herbicide application for 9 years across Alberta, Manitoba, California, and Oregon. Armed with a diploma in Forest Technology, she blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills to ensure safe and effective operations. Brittany's meticulous approach and deep understanding of herbicide application techniques make her a trusted leader in the field. Dedicated to upholding environmental responsibility, she strives to balance effective vegetation management with ecological preservation. Brittany's dedication and expertise make her an invaluable asset to our team at Backwoods Resources.
Kale Holmes
Shop Manager
Kale Holmes is an accomplished professional in vegetation management. Since joining Backwoods Resources in 2018, he has advanced to the position of Oil and Gas Foreman and Shop Manager. Graduating from NAIT in 2022 with a diploma in small engine mechanics, Kale brings a wealth of technical expertise to his role. In his current capacity, he leads teams in vegetation management tasks and oversees shop operations, ensuring compliance, maximizing productivity, and driving efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
Hugh Olson
Foreman
Hugh joined Backwoods in 2021 as a Certified Pesticide Applicator, bringing with him a year of industry experience. Now in his fourth year with Backwoods, his passion for environmental stewardship shines through in every project. A 2020 graduate from Portage College with a diploma in Natural Resource Technology, Hugh’s academic background laid the foundation of his career. His dedication to sustainable practices and his expertise in vegetation management have made him a key asset to the Backwoods team, where he continues to contribute to the company’s success and uphold its commitment to ecological integrity.
