Forestry
Certified AB, BC, and SK pesticide applicators
Backwoods offers ground herbicide application methods for forestry companies. We have experienced crew members that can provide professional treatment for various management projects.
Our main application method is foliage spraying. This is used to remove undesired vegetation and invasive weeds in cut blocks to allow desired tree species (typically conifers for timber) to grow. This can be done in early summer when translocation is rapid and leaves are fully developed. However, if there is concern of conifer damage occurring, spraying will have to wait until the fall after conifers have set their buds to prevent harm to conifer species.
For equipment, we used tracked/tired UTV’s to access locations and haul mixed herbicide on site, while we use a crew with backpack sprayers to cover the rough terrain. When working with backpack sprayers we ensure there are set/flagged boundaries, work in a tight line, and communicate across the line to ensure the entire area is covered properly without step out of bounds or missing patches. In easy terrain we can utilize UTV or truck sprayers to reduce time and physical effort required for the application.
