Not all vegetation can be or should be controlled through herbicide application. This is why we offer mechanical and manual removal of vegetation based on the type of management required, location of vegetation (ex. adjacent to water bodies), and type of vegetation on site.
Backwoods offers a range of mechanical control options: mowing, weed whacking, discing, tilling, and mulching. We have a diverse fleet of equipment to manage different control requirements: weed whackers, zero turn mowers, tractors with attachments, and skid steers. With experienced equipment operators on staff and assortments of attachments for our equipment we have expanded our vegetation management services to be more diverse and all-encompassing.

When these mechanical methods are not appropriate, we also resort to old fashion hand picking. Common areas this is required are in wetlands, along water bodies, in sensitive habitat, and around sensitive/protected vegetation. Invasive noxious and prohibited noxious weeds are bagged and disposed of properly to prevent the spread of weeds off site to new locations. In areas of special concern, like club root infested soils or high density weed areas, we take extra precautions to prevent the spread of disease and weeds: bleaching and cleaning equipment/PPE on site, washing equipment/PPE in our wash bay once out of the field, and collecting seeds/heads from picked plants and leaving roots to dry out and die to prevent soil transfer for certain species. Invasive weeds cannot be disposed of with your normal garbage or yard waste, it must be taken to appropriate facilities to be destroyed to prevent their spread.
